The MENA region continues to be a region with a huge potential for the expansion of renewable energy sources. Renewable energy sources nevertheless only account for 2.5% of total regional energy production in 2015. At the same time, the MENA region is one of the most vulnerable regions to global climate change. Countries of the region are already subject to external climate-related shocks with varying degrees such as desertification, lack in water resources, and negative impacts on human livelihood and health. In order to address the social risks related to climate change effects in the MENA Region FES has developed with its partner Climate Action Network Arab World a set of infographics to draw the attention of a wider public on these topics. The thirty infographics were widely-shared on social media in order to attract a younger public. A few examples can be found below.
Department for Middle East and North Africa
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung has a network of eleven country offices in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and implements projects in a total of 14 countries. Some offices, such as Egypt or Sudan, look back at a history of more than 40 years of cooperation.
